- Can I prefill an employee's I-9 or W-4 for them?
- Only the parts that are genuinely yours. Section 1 of the I-9 is the employee's own attestation about their work authorisation, and the withholding elections in a W-4 are their choice — completing those on someone's behalf is not a time saving, it is a defect in the record. Filly is built for the other pattern: fill the employer's half, then send a link where the employee completes and signs their own. Filly does not run E-Verify and does not track I-9 retention deadlines.
- We already use Gusto, Rippling, BambooHR or Workday. Is this redundant?
- For the federal onboarding forms, largely yes — those systems carry I-9 and W-4 natively and you should use what you already pay for. Filly earns its place on the forms they don't carry: the state withholding certificate, the benefits carrier's own PDF, a background-check authorisation, an employment-verification request from a lender or landlord, and whatever one-off document a client or agency sends you.
- Does it connect to our ATS or HRIS?
- Not live. Filly has no public API and no direct integration, so the path from another system is an export: get a CSV out of it, upload that, and Filly maps the columns to the form's fields and returns one filled document per row. If you need a filled PDF the instant a candidate flips to hired, that is an API job and Filly is the wrong tool for it.
- Can I do a whole cohort at once?
- Yes, within limits worth knowing before you plan around them. Batch fill runs from a CSV — one filled document per row — and it is capped at 5 rows on Solo and 20 on Pro. The CSV must be a .csv file, not an .xlsx. For a cohort larger than that, run it in batches.
- What if the form is a scan or has no fillable fields?
- It still works. Filly reads the page with OCR and places values by position, so a flattened carrier PDF or a scanned form fills like any other. That is the case most form tools stop at — they need a PDF that already has a form layer.
- Is our employee data used to train AI models?
- No. Uploaded documents are not used to train AI models. Analysis runs through Anthropic's Claude API, data is stored in the EU with processing agreements in place, and you can delete documents or your whole account at any time.
Filly is a document-filling tool, not an employment-law or immigration adviser, and it does not run E-Verify or track I-9 retention deadlines. Employment paperwork carries real compliance obligations — check completed forms against current federal and state requirements, and take professional advice where the answer matters.
