Clip it to the front of any paper application and USCIS emails and texts you a receipt number within about 24 hours of accepting your filing — days before the paper notice arrives. It's free, optional, and asks for exactly three things: your name, an email, and a mobile number.
What Form G-1145 Is
Form G-1145, "E-Notification of Application/Petition Acceptance," exists to answer one anxious question: did USCIS actually receive my filing? When you attach it to a mailed application, USCIS sends an electronic notice — one email and one text message — the moment your case is accepted and a receipt number is assigned. That's your earliest confirmation that the packet arrived and is in the system.
How to Fill and Attach Form G-1145
- Enter your details. Last name, first name, middle name, then the email address and mobile phone number where you want the notification sent.
- Clip it to the front. Attach the completed G-1145 to the very top of the first page of your application package — not stapled inside, on top, so the USCIS intake staff see it first.
- Mail the package. That's it. There's nothing to sign and no separate submission.
You'll get the email and text once, at acceptance. After that, use the receipt number to track your case online.
Which applications can I file G-1145 with?
Nearly any paper application or petition you mail to a USCIS lockbox — a Form I-765 work-permit application, an I-130 petition, an I-485, an I-131 travel document, and more. If you're mailing an adjustment-of-status packet with several forms, one G-1145 on top covers that submission's acceptance notice.
Is Form G-1145 required?
No. It's entirely optional and costs nothing. Skipping it just means you wait for the paper receipt notice (Form I-797C) to arrive by mail instead of getting the early electronic heads-up. Most self-filers include it precisely because it removes the "did it arrive?" uncertainty during the slowest part of the process.
